Make a Square Product Photo Without Cropping the Product

Fit tall or wide product photos into a square without cutting off the subject. Adjust padding, background and shadow, then check your export requirements.

A tall bottle or a long shoe can lose important details when you switch to a square frame. Use Fit whole image when you need to preserve the complete product. This is a composition workflow, not a guarantee that every marketplace will accept the result.

Crop or fit?

Cropping selects part of the source. Fitting scales the image into the chosen canvas proportions. MDN's Canvas documentation distinguishes the source rectangle from the destination size used to draw it.

Goal Our suggested starting point
Show the complete original product Fit the whole image, then add padding
Show one detail closely Crop a separate copy and keep a full view as well
Use a solid new background Remove the original background before choosing a colour
Retain the photographed setting Keep the background and change only the framing

Empty space can be the expected result of fitting different proportions. It does not always need to be eliminated with zoom. Check the label, packaging and accessories before tightening the frame.

Make a square while keeping the original scene

Open edit image, choose your photo and set Aspect ratio to 1:1. Enable Fit whole image and set Crop zoom to 1. Add only the padding you need. This works without background removal, but retains the existing scene inside the image.

If the original already cuts off a bottle cap or another part of the product, fitting cannot recreate it. Start from a complete photograph when that detail matters.

Use the Product preset after removal

For a new background, open remove background and inspect the cutout first. Then choose Product. The preset selects a square, fits the whole image, adds padding, and applies a pale green background and soft shadow.

Those are FileMyLove starting settings. If your destination needs white or does not allow shadows, change the colour and disable the shadow before saving. The preset does not automatically validate marketplace rules.

Check colour and labels before exporting

Our suggestion is to compare with Show original before making strong saturation or contrast adjustments. Inspect the downloaded label text as well. This editor does not generate backgrounds from text prompts or provide AI upscaling.

Choose JPG when transparency is unnecessary, or PNG when you need a transparent subject for another composition. Exports are capped at 2,048 pixels on the longest side. For exact output dimensions, use resize image on the downloaded file and recheck the destination requirements. Keep your original: the editor clears the image after download.
