A GIF can look uneven when a hand moves quickly or a cursor jumps across a screen. Before increasing its dimensions, compare the same section at 10 and 15 fps and check whether the original video already contains the problem.
Frame frequency and playback speed
FileMyLove's video to GIF tool samples images from the selected video interval at the chosen fps and assigns corresponding frame delays. This controls image frequency; it is not a speed-up or slow-motion setting.
GIF89a stores frame delays in hundredths of a second. Our tool rounds to that unit: the 10 fps option uses 100 milliseconds per frame, while 15 fps uses 70 milliseconds. The resulting timing need not match the source to every fraction of a second.
Change one thing at a time
- Choose a short section that clearly shows the problem, such as a hand picking something up.
- Export it at 10 fps with a fixed width.
- Export the same interval at 15 fps.
- Open both in the same viewer and compare motion and actual file size.
- Choose the version that communicates clearly at the recipient's viewing size.
We suggest starting with a width of 320 or 480 pixels. When a clip contains small text, assess readability separately from motion. Changing width and fps together makes it harder to know which adjustment helped.
If motion still looks uneven
| Observation | Our suggested next step |
|---|---|
| The original stutters at the same point | Find a more complete source recording |
| 15 fps improves continuity but exceeds the size limit | Shorten the interval before sacrificing text clarity |
| Text disappears before it can be read | Choose a longer stationary moment or send the original video |
| The end jumps abruptly back to the beginning | Choose start and end images that are closer visually |
The tool samples existing frames. It does not create AI intermediate frames, so increasing fps cannot guarantee repair of a choppy source.
Check the delivered file
Open the downloaded file before sending and try it in its destination. When precise timing or sound matters, consider sending video and always retain the original. Conversion runs in your browser without uploading the clip.
