When a guide or note is written in Markdown but the recipient needs Word, convert it to DOCX. Make headings and lists express the structure before converting, then inspect the Word document. Do not assume that it will reproduce every detail of your Markdown editor's preview.
Prepare the source
We suggest saving the text as UTF-8 and keeping the original .md file. Pandoc documents UTF-8 as its text input and output encoding. FileMyLove uses Pandoc to process the document on your device.
| Source element | Suggested check |
|---|---|
| Headings | Use consistent levels such as # and ## |
| Lists | Mark items clearly instead of using many spaces to simulate page layout |
| Tables | Start with simple tables, then inspect column widths after conversion |
| Links | Check their display text and destination URL |
| Images | Identify separate files or links the conversion may not retrieve |
If symbols such as asterisks should appear literally, check your Markdown syntax first. Some punctuation controls formatting rather than appearing as ordinary text.
Convert to Word
- Open Markdown to Word.
- Select your .md or .markdown file and confirm Word as the output.
- Convert, wait for processing and download the DOCX.
- Open it in Word for checking and final layout.
This workflow sends one document's content to the converter, not an accompanying image folder. Selecting several documents does not automatically make one file a supporting resource for another. Add missing pictures in Word from the files you have.
Check structure before styling
Pandoc aims to retain document structure, but not every layout detail or complex element. We suggest checking headings, lists, tables and links before adjusting fonts or margins.
Use Word's navigation pane to review heading order. Inspect the longest table for text in the correct cells. Editor-specific extensions may need reformatting. Looking at only the first page is not enough to establish that the content is complete.
Choose the file for the next task
Send DOCX when the recipient needs to edit, keeping the Markdown source separately. For a fixed-page reading copy, finish the layout before creating a PDF and inspect that too. See Word to PDF font and layout checks.
For other source formats, see the document conversion guide and choose the route matching your file.
