Word to PDF: Fixing Font Changes and Shifted Pages

Check fonts, tables, margins and print previews when a DOCX changes during PDF conversion. Compare the saved PDF with the original before sending.

If a DOCX looks correct in Word but its PDF has different page breaks or shifted text, compare the original, the print preview and the saved PDF. This helps locate where the difference appears.

Start with fonts

Microsoft explains that embedding fonts can reduce font and layout changes when sharing documents. Some fonts restrict embedding, however. Do not assume that every recipient or converter has the original font available.

We recommend opening the source in its authoring program, checking Thai characters and enabling font embedding when the application and font permit it. If you substitute a font, recheck line wrapping and page count.

Save through FileMyLove

Open Word to PDF, select the DOCX and start conversion. The site lays out the document in the browser and opens the print dialog. Choose Save as PDF, using the equivalent destination provided by your browser or operating system.

Inspect pages with wide tables, pictures, headers and footnotes before saving. This workflow does not run Word itself, so exact agreement with Word's layout is not guaranteed.

Older .doc files need to be opened in a compatible application and saved as .docx first. Renaming the extension is not conversion.

Match the symptom to a check

Symptom Our suggested first check
Thai characters become boxes or use a different typeface The source font and character coverage
Extra pages or shifted line breaks Fonts, paper size and margins in the print preview
Clipped tables or moved pictures The affected page against Word, then print settings
Unwanted URL or date on the page Browser print headers and footers, where available

These are starting points, not a diagnosis that every problem comes from fonts. Change one setting at a time and compare results so that you can identify what helped.

When layout fidelity is essential

If Word already displays the source correctly, we recommend trying PDF export from that application first. Microsoft documents Save As or Export PDF in Office desktop apps. Inspect the exported PDF itself rather than relying only on how the DOCX looked.

Compare page count, table headings, page numbers, names and important figures. Retain the DOCX for later edits. For other document formats, see our document conversion guide, which explains why their structures differ.
