GLB Animation Missing After Conversion: What to Check

Separate orbiting a model from playing animation, understand current GLB conversion limits, and prepare motion-dependent deliveries.

By FileMyLove1 min read

A GLB that displays a character or product without movement is not necessarily damaged. Separate what the file format supports from what a particular tool reads and exports.

Orbiting is not animation playback

Dragging the view lets you inspect an object from different angles. It does not play a walk cycle, timed part movement or a saved animation clip.

Three.js documents animation support in glTF and an exporter option for specifying included clips. FileMyLove's current conversion path takes the model scene without forwarding those clips to the exporter. Its viewer also has no clip-playback controls, so it is unsuitable for accepting or validating animation work.

Choose the delivery by its purpose

Recipient needs Our recommendation
Shape and surface inspection Open the model and check its parts
A still illustration Send PNG or a sheet of views
Walking or other motion Export through an animation-capable application and test clips
Further animation editing Keep the authoring project and agree on a format

Do not overwrite the original GLB with the conversion. Keeping the same filename extension does not establish that every type of data survived.

Check before delivery

  1. Open the original in an animation-capable application and confirm the required clips exist.
  2. Record the clip names and motions the recipient needs.
  3. For still output, inspect the shape in View 3D, then use Convert 3D for the desired format.
  4. To retain animation, use the source application's export workflow and reopen the exported file to test every clip.
  5. Ask the recipient to test it in the destination application before replacing the original.

Diagnose textures separately

If movement and colours are both absent, do not assume they share a cause. See GLB, glTF and missing textures for preparing companion files.

For team reference images, read about static four-view model PDFs. These communicate shape but cannot demonstrate that animation clips remain in a model file.
