An OBJ may display its shape while a logo or surface pattern is missing. Opening the main file does not prove that its materials arrived. Check the delivery before converting it again.
Identify the pieces
Three.js describes OBJ geometry and MTL companion material properties. Its OBJ loader accepts materials prepared by MTLLoader.
| File | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| OBJ | The intended main model |
| MTL | Materials belonging to this model |
| PNG, JPG or other images | Referenced texture files are included |
| Creator's reference picture | Expected pattern placement and appearance |
We recommend requesting the complete export from the creator. Avoid renaming images before testing because the material file may still refer to their original names.
Open the delivery in FileMyLove
- Open View 3D.
- Select the OBJ, its MTL and relevant images together.
- Rotate the model and compare several surfaces with the reference.
- Read missing-resource warnings and check the source delivery.
The site matches selected local companions by filename; it does not download referenced image URLs. If different folders contain identically named images, test one delivery at a time or request an export without name collisions.
When the complete set still differs
Having every file does not establish that all materials will look identical to the design application. We suggest verifying that the MTL belongs to the OBJ and comparing a reference before treating every lighting or colour difference as a missing file.
For multiple MTL files or a complex structure, ask the creator for a simpler, testable export. This viewer is not a material-file editor.
Import and export have different limits
Convert 3D uses OBJExporter, whose documentation says it cannot export materials into MTL. Downloading OBJ here is therefore not a backup of the original material package. Retain the original OBJ, MTL and images.
If the recipient accepts GLB or glTF, see the glTF texture checklist and reopen any converted result. For printing, follow the recipient's requirements and read STL, OBJ and 3MF.
