A sign or document may be upright while its letters look reflected in a mirror. Check the direction of the text before repeatedly rotating the picture. Sideways and mirrored images need different adjustments.
Diagnose using readable text
Apple's guide distinguishes rotation from horizontal and vertical flipping. We suggest using a known word or number as your reference rather than judging only by a face or object position.
| Appearance | What to try on a copy |
|---|---|
| Lines of text are sideways | Rotate to make the lines upright |
| Lines are upright but letters are reflected | Try flipping and compare with the real word |
| Both sideways and mirrored | Adjust one thing at a time and inspect after each step |
| Only one area is reversed | Check the source before flipping the entire picture |
Correct a copy in FileMyLove
- Keep the source and open Edit image.
- Select the photo and find the flip control in the framing section.
- If needed, use rotation and check the preview.
- Read names, numbers and text in different parts of the picture.
- Download, reopen and inspect the actual result.
The flip control transforms the whole image; it does not select individual words or correct spelling. Processing stays in the browser. The editor caps the long side at 2048 pixels, so retain the source for work requiring higher resolution.
Review more than one word
We recommend comparing at least two text locations and checking that document edges remain intact. With text from different sources or a composite picture, correcting one word may reverse another area.
Avoid unrelated cropping or zoom changes while fixing orientation. That makes it easier to see which details changed.
Before recognising text
Use the checked copy with Image to text, then compare the recognised text against the picture. Flipping is not a guarantee of accurate OCR. See the screenshot text checklist for word review, or print-copy preparation before printing.
